Five Tiny Details That Take Your Event from Good to Great

Big moments might grab the headlines, but it’s often the smallest details that make your event unforgettable.

Over the years, from Plant Fest to Bloom in the Bay, to private launches and community festivals, I’ve seen firsthand how thoughtful touches create a sense of magic that people remember long after the event is over.

Here are five tiny details I always try to weave into the events I work on:

1. Clear, Friendly Signage: Good signage makes people feel welcome and informed. Whether it’s where to park, where to grab food, or where the workshops are happening, friendly, clear signs instantly reduce confusion and make people feel looked after.

2. Surprising Moments of Delight: A free tasting. A mini giveaway. An unexpected photo opportunity. These little "wow" moments catch people off guard (in the best way) and give them stories to share.

3. Warm, Visible Staff: Event staff who are easy to spot, approachable, and genuinely helpful create a ripple effect of good feeling. Investing in great people on the day makes a massive difference to the whole atmosphere.

4. Small Comforts: Water stations. Shade areas. Somewhere to sit. Tiny comfort-focused details show that you’ve thought about the guest experience beyond the headline entertainment.

5. Easy, Natural Communication: Reminders, schedule updates, and friendly announcements that sound human (not robotic) help people relax and enjoy the event without feeling overwhelmed or confused.

Great events don’t just happen because of big stages or flash budgets. They happen because someone cared enough to make sure every little detail added up to something that felt welcoming, joyful, and easy.

Those tiny details? They’re what transform a good event into a great one.
